Sober Saturday: Sick and Tired…

When I was younger I could go NON-STOP!

I had 3 jobs, I’d make sure I volunteered at least once a week at a shelter, did all kinds of things with my younger niece and little cousins, and I was apart of the Drama Ministry at my Church. (Great Commission Baptist Church, Fort Worth, TX)

I did many shows over the years but right now one in particular sticks out to me…

It was the Black History program and I was all set to be Fannie Lou Hamer. A civil rights and voting rights activists who was known for her straight forward approach and the quote

“I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired”

Have you ever been there?

Sick of your situation… so far on the edge that you can see the end but cant reach it?

I’ve been there.

I’ve stressed over and over my hate for drugs and alcohol and how it destroys people and their families and I know this is Sober Saturday but I also know that there are people out there like myself who don’t have a substance or alcohol abuse problem but are SICK AND TIRED!

Is it your job? Is it your lack of a job? Your family? Is it this messed up world we live in? (It’s bad out here ya’ll) Or is it in fact an addiction to something you NEVER thought would even cross your mind and now it’s all you think about?

What is it?

What are you tired of?

I love Ms. Hamer. I cant remember the complete monologue. I cant remember much about her. I don’t know if I should be typing Mrs instead of Ms. In fact, the only thing that I remember confidently is the quote that she’s known for so much that it is engraved on her tombstone. What I admire most about it is that despite her tiredness mentally, spiritually, and even physically she took action. And aggressively! Even as a Black woman in those days, with all she had against her to begin with she found ways to try to change her situation and the world around her.

What are you doing to change your situation? It’s not enough to just be tired. It’s not enough to just want change. I’m not going to go into the whole “you have to be strong”, “you have to push through” speech because we all know what we have to do OR better yet, we know what NOT to do. Don’t put yourself back in the same situation because it convenient. Don’t do that to yourself. Do what you gotta do. Get it together. No more sulking, being lazy, and JUST being tired.

Let Ms. Hamer inspire you and do it no matter how BIG the task seems.

and then get some rest…

“You can pray until you faint but unless you get up and try to do something God is not going to put it in your lap”

-Fannie Lou Hamer

Rest In Peace

Time to talk…

Hello!! I hope all of you are well… okay so, last week I made a video geared towards the youth but really for everyone… I  posted it to my YouTube channel (jamiedreamsbig) and I wanted to share it with you. It’s one of those type of pull your friend on the side conversations about self worth and I REALLY think this conversation needs to be opened up for discussion. I have literally been disgusted just thinking about the lack of self worth people are walking around with… And the things people do to gain attention and “love” not fully understanding that some attention just isn’t worth having and the type of things love requires would never include belittling yourself for someone’s enjoyment. Please watch, share, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

Casual Sunday OOTD

Hello My loves!! As promised, I’m trying my hardest to remember to post OOTD pics when I wear the things featured in my haul video!

This was just yesterday… Headed out to Church and the beginning of a very exciting, very EXHAUSTING family day.

As mentioned in the video (VISIT MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE!!) the shirt is Forever 21, the shoes are Zara, and although they weren’t featured in the vid, I got these fabulous jeans from Urban Outfitters. The shoes weren’t as comfy as they could have been because of the ankle strap so it will definitely take a few times to break them in. Here are some other views…

As you can see (and I’m actually just realizing) I have ZERO accessories on but then again, my bible did match my shoes and that smile I’m wearing is something serious! Let me know what you think of this outfit in the comments and if you’re not already following go ahead and make it happen! Good day Hun…

Your value does not decrease based on someone’s inability to see your worth!!

QUICK REMINDER: When someone fails to see how great you are it’s not because something is wrong with you but perhaps they need to get their vision checked! Embrace the things that make you quirky and the things that some may see as flaws! Be honest with yourself about if you feel like these “flaws” contribute to who you are in a positive way… and if they do- forget about the lack of vision they have. It’s their issue!!!!

“You is kind, you is smart, you is important…” KNOW THIS!!

You want something? Well what’s stopping you?

You want something? Well what's stopping you?

This was me a week and a day ago… planning for my website I decided to start only minutes before my journal was filled with thoughts, ideas, and aspirations. I had no clue what I was getting myself into and I thought it would be super difficult to get my own website but… what did I have to lose? The next morning with my head FULL of doubts I logged onto my computer and got started. It literally took me 5 minutes to get it up and going!! If you want something GO FOR IT! Prove yourself wrong and replace the doubts with confidence… the only thing that can REALLY keep you from something you want is you! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!! One week down…
