The Rose that grew from Concrete

The Rose that grew from Concrete

Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack
in the concrete?
Proving nature’s laws wrong it learned to walk
without having feet
Funny it seems but by keeping its dreams
It learned to breathe fresh air
long live the rose that grew from concrete
When no one else even cared!
-Tupac Shakur

I absolutely LOVE Tupac! This poem was written along with loads of others between 1989 and 1991 and can be found in his book “The Rose that grew from Concrete” and other hot poems can be found in his music. The book is nothing short of genius and has even been included in some school curriculums!! I just heard it on a commercial for the new Ford vehicles. Though he was at times misunderstood I think this says a lot about the person he truly was. His life, like the poem, shows that even though you are born into a situation or labeled certain things (Gangster rapper perhaps?) you are not limited to just that!! You can rise above any situation if you want it bad enough and take the steps necessary. No excuses allowed y’all! ! Be inspired … go higher!
